▣ Affirmations

I am trying to lose weight.  You talk about affirmations a lot.  Please explain to me how I can use affirmations to help me with my weight loss.

The words "l AM..." are potent words; be careful what you hitch them to.

The thing you're claiming has a way of reaching back and claiming you.

—A. L. Kitselman

Affirmation means to make firm, solid, more real. Thoughts—not very solid—when repeated over and over, become more and more firm. They become feelings, behaviors, experiences, and things. What we think about, we can become (excerpted from Life 101. by John-Roger and Peter Me Williams, Prelude Press, Los Angeles, CA, 1991).  You are what you think!

▣ What About Keeping a Dream Journal?

One of the greatest tools an individual can make use of is the practice of keeping a dream journal.   A dream journal provides a record of where one has started his/her journey, what has developed along the path, and provides a picture of where the individual is at a particular time in his/her life.

I have found that moments after waking up, the average individual will forget parts or all of their experience in the dream state unless he/she takes the time to record the experience.   More often than not, if the dreamer does not immediately record the dream, even though the dream is strong when he/she wakes up, the memory of the dream is gone by the time the feet hit the floor.

▣ How can I improve my day and my life?

Have you attempted to control your thoughts; only thinking positive, happy, prosperous and uplifting thoughts? Have you only thought nice things about yourself and others? Have you been thankful for what is going "right" and counting your blessings? And intentionally, i.e., consciously learning from what appears to be going "wrong?" There is great power in this process, but most people are completely ignorant of this power. Whether you apply this principle or not makes a distinct difference in your life. When a person changes his or her habits of thinking, they will notice the difference within a couple of weeks. Otherwise they simply perpetuate whatever their jar of unconscious thoughts creates.

First, let’s discuss forgiveness and how it affects us.  We start with the dictionary.com definition of forgiveness which is…to grant pardon for or remission of (an offense, debt, etc.); absolve.

The problem with this definition is that unless you are clearly in touch with the contents of your JAR, you are unaware that the offense is not the issue.  The issue is the emotion that was triggered by the offense; e.g., anger, frustration, disappointment, guilt, unmet expectations, etc.  The emotion then becomes the root of the reaction. ...

Prayers and praying are very powerful -- tools that are easy to use and can give us great results.

It is common practice for individuals to pray for the benefit of others for healings, releasing negative energies, and for blessings; but we often forget to pray for our own healing, calmness, and blessings. You will discover that by cleansing yourself, that is, turning any negative energy over to a Higher Power (God), you are much kinder and more considerate to others. In effect, praying for yourself provides a double benefit.

The intention of Part 2 is to provide a description of the fifth and final step – to ACT. As a reminder, here are the five steps of manifestation (The Law of Attraction):

 WHO IS DRIVING YOUR BUS?

I hesitate to describe manifestation in a lot of detail because one individual or group will follow the rules explicitly, but then someone else will do everything “technically wrong” and succeed dramatically. The reason generally is passion – the one rebel fills their intention with their passionate drive and any road blocks that come up are bulldozed through.

The reason for presenting the rules is basically the same as the answer to “who is driving your bus?” In other words, many people do the easy and comfortable thing; they catch the same buses everyday and let a professional driver take them to their intended destination. The destination is someone else’s manifestation – you go to a place of work, a school or university, a restaurant or a happy hour bar, a place of entertainment, etc., and you passively participate in the entrepreneur’s manifestation. I know you want to challenge this scenario and tell everyone about how hard you work at your job or how hard you play at your favorite hobby or softball game, but it is still someone else’s manifestation and you are just one of the rider’s on their bus.

Healing Prayer…Our meditation group often sends out (email) a “request for healing prayer” to offer our channeled and collective energies to someone in need – for example: an illness that is causing havoc in their physical being or in their family; an accident, sometimes extremely serious; a disaster, like the recent hurricane that hit Texas; or to pray for someone who is at death’s door; etc. We individually and collectively are more-than-willing to offer our channeled energy to the individual or family in need, but at the same time we acknowledge that the individual has free will to choose to accept these energies or that the Universal energies are calling for that individual or a family member to return home (to Heaven or to the pool of Universal energies). In other words sometimes the individual is ready to die.

So how do we as individuals and collectively deal with these apparent opposites; that is, how do we send healing prayers/energies to an individual and, at the same time, not interfere with the individual’s free will.

And then there is the individual who is wealthier than one of the Pharaohs of old Egypt or a Sheik of old Persia; but if you (or Barbara Walters were to interview him/her), there is always something else they desire.

A fable…

One day the wealthiest man in the city decided to go for a walk around the area and prove his magnificence. So out on to a city street he went and he soon came up on a man who looked like he was homeless and in dire poverty. This man was sitting on the park bench and in front of him was a bowl – the wealthy man assumed it was a begging bowl –

CAVEAT: The information presented in this series of posts is important to message receivers and message givers, but is not intended as a certification process to vouch for or teach everything that these individuals need to know. Always keep in mind that an individual has free will and should never sacrifice his/her free will to a psychic message or to a message giver.

I enjoy getting psychic messages and participating in psychic readings by an ethical practitioner (a psychic or medium). And, I enjoy attending a spiritualist church/chapel in which a practitioner gives messages to the attendees/congregation as a part of the overall chapel service. I also enjoy participating in meditation circles for developing practitioners and the ethical use of their skills, especially when the circle is lead by a psychic or medium who is sensitive to the participant’s level of knowledge; for example, giving a message to the new participant who has only limited exposure to the etiquette of receiving messages often requires additional clarification for the message to be beneficial to the recipient.

The information in this write-up is intended as a helpful guide to any psychic/medium in their delivery of life-affirming messages or readings. And, it will benefit the recipient by their getting the maximum benefit from a message or reading.

BUCKET 2012
Richard Parker, Psy.D

Well here it is another year in my life has wrapped up. I obviously made it through 2011 and in relatively good health and high spirits. So now I start the 2012 New Year by saying to you and yours “carpe diem.”

There is a tradition that most Americans are well aware of that involves making New Year’s resolutions. You review your current life and habits and develop a few written statements regarding things you want to change. However, in reality, most of the resolutions listed turn into failures.  There are numerous rationalizations about why these desired changes fail because people are infinitely creative in explaining their basic lack of motivation. Okay, so you fail and that is somewhat of a shame, but, in reality, you expected to fail on many of the resolutions you developed for yourself; and, while I could write about dozens of rational reasons for your failure, it still might not cover your particular circumstances.

I want to know about anxiety, fear, jealousy, guilt and intolerance and how all these emotions and attitudes relate to each other and how meditation helps one intentionally intervene to keep these emotions from taking over their life?

It is important to recognize that answering this question could take an entire book as it is about human emotions which are very complex areas of the psyche – the conscious and unconscious process of the human mind (JARs). Meditation is useful in

(1) clarifying your mind regarding the factors, people and your interpretation of the emotions that you are dealing with in some important situation in a protected spiritual environment;

(2) focusing your awareness in such a way that it allows you to intervene – creating an intentional intervention;

(3) expanding your view of the world;

(4) wrapping you in calmness – peace of mind; and

(5) as needed, providing the gift of Universal Healing.

Again, I must take us to our jars (subconscious).  Here we find our foundation for self-esteem/self-worth.  We create and live our entire lives through the beliefs we hold about ourselves.  If we feel unworthy, we create situations in our lives that mirror our unworthiness back to us.  If we feel unlovable, we search endlessly for someone who will love us.  When we find someone who we feel loves us, he/she will inevitably behave in ways that make us feel unloved/betrayed by love.   If we feel we are not smart enough, we may drop out of school or avoid going to college because of a fear of failure.  Whatever belief(s) you have about yourself forms the foundation of your behavior, your choices, your experiences, and what and/or who you attract into life.

Otherwise, they simply perpetuate whatever their jar of unconscious thoughts creates.

Personal Life Cycle (PLC)…

Your Personal Life Cycle (PLC) represents a cyclical roadmap of your life.  PLC’s operate in nine-year segments beginning with one and ending with a PLC of nine.  Each year presents a new set of vibrational energies, so knowing your cycles can enable you to create the right circumstances to help you achieve your goals.

▣ What about those what if's?

Ok, I know that it seems as if when something turns out to have different results than we expected or desired, or when we are planning on doing/obtaining something, “what if’s” seem terribly important.   So, why do I emphasize letting go of what if’s?  I will venture to explain because I know that in our jars we have become addicted to using what if’s in the way we use salt on our food.

When we evoke the term, “What if?” diffferent things happen…

Ever feel as if you have sold yourself out?

Well, surprise, you have!  Unconsciously most of the time, and sometimes on purpose.    For example, those times when you really despised your job, but you got a paycheck so you stayed; those times when you stayed in a bad relationship because you were afraid of taking care of yourself or you thought no one else would want you; those times you negotiated for something, and gave up some part of yourself to get it; those times when you convinced yourself if you only did it just this one time and you never did it again, all would be okay!  Ok, I am not just picking on you.  Most, probably all, human beings do it.

What is the truth?

This is one of those trick questions because we all think we know what truth is.  BUT, in fact, we only know what we believe is truth in our book of rules.  Oh no, she’s going back to my jar!!!  As a matter of fact, I am going back to your jar.  This is where your understanding and/or should I say your perception of what is truth resides.   Some examples of perceptions/misconceptions of truth…

▣ The Victim

Over the years, I have found that when I realistically examine the thoughts in my head and correlate these thoughts to my behaviors, I truly am an accomplished victim.   As I recognize the victim drama I play, I have also become profoundly aware that the victim archetype seems to be alive and well in our society today, both in individual behavior and the collective behavior; e.g., groups playing the victim to other groups, whether political, religious, or rights groups; individuals feeling victimized by their circumstances.  On the other side of this is the fact that these same groups and individuals victimize others.  It is very easy for us to use the victim as an excuse for our misery, but how often do we recognize when we are victimizing others?

We, as humans, have a need to be right!   What is the payoff though “of being right?”

How many times in your life have you sacrificed relationships, jobs, and money for the sake of being right?  As humans, we all have a need to be right.  We will defend our views/beliefs/perceptions to the ends of the universe, because this is what we do.  The problem is that all humans do the same.  So when you argue your...

"The greatest of victories is the victory over oneself."

The foundation of our life is built by the qualities of the beliefs we contain in our jars (our subconscious).  As a result of this, the foundation upon which we rely and judge our lives and from which we get feedback about how happy, successful, rich/poor, smart, good/bad, etc., is built on shaky (at best) footing.

There is something about September that you should be made conscious of.  September is the month every year when you may find yourself a little depressed, sad, and/or feeling rundown,   It is the month that precedes our energy related to transitioning from one year to the next.   In this case, from 2009 to 2010.

“At this time you come face to face with life situations.  Old ideas become outdated and new goals become feasible.  There is often an internal struggle to decide whether to cling to the outmoded past or to associate yourself with the new incoming possibilities.  The choices confront you and your reluctance shows itself plainly.

▣ What is meditation and why should I meditate?

I love meditation.  I love to see and hear about the benefits that my friends and students describe as they learn and become life long practitioners of meditation.  I have been a practitioner and teacher of meditation for 35 years and I feel it is my responsibility to share my knowledge and that of the people I have had the privilege of studying with over these many years.

One of the reasons that people are drawn to meditation is because it is a great tool to be used in their daily life to help them deal with stress, lack of sleep, or mental chatter; but a practice of meditation can be so much more.

As you know, your jar (http://www.thestudyofwhatif.com/classes.htm) is the storehouse of all yours memories, beliefs, your life’s experiences (both comfortable and uncomfortable/happy and sad, and so on), your fears, your hurts, your desires, your disappointments, your happy times, traditions, religious beliefs, etc. These memories are usually contained within your unconscious (jar), so we are unaware that they are having an influence on our outlook or the decisions we make. As we live our lives, our first reaction to any experience, from deciding if our day will be good or miserable or if someone we have just met is friendly or not, is based on data that is contained within our jars. For example,

When the Walls Come Down

It was one of those business trips when my husband decided to come along with me. It was a short trip and we would drive.    It was a beautifully clear day --blue skies, the sun shining, and no humidity; so we were able to travel with the car windows open. The roads were clear of traffic allowing us to glide right along.   I usually carry snacks when we travel.  My husband decided he could use a snack so I gave him a protein bar.   He proceeded to drive while trying to open the bar wrapper with his teeth.  It was not working.  It was one of those protein bars that was wrapped in some sort of foil wrap that just stuck like glue to the bar.   Here’s where I made my first mistake.

“You will find as you look back upon your life that the moments when you have truly lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love.”

Henry Drummond

The short and perfect answer to this question is, “love has everything to do with it.”  However, because we are human beings, short and perfect answers usually give us reasons to stay the same rather than to look inside, let go, and grow, so we will expand on the question.

Each individual is hemmed in by so many influences that, from time immortal, many individuals have exerted the effort to gain control of the impulses that run loose in their world. It has been, and still is, easier to let things just happen as they will rather than exert the will to direct them. The dividing line between success and failure is found at that stage when an individual ceases drifting aimlessly.

We are all creatures of emotions, desires, circumstances, and accidents. ...

▣ Is there a reason why we meet every single person in this life?

The simple answer is YES!   “Yes” becomes a most powerful answer if you are able to accept it because it can open doors for all of us to understand many of our relationships and teaches us that everyone we meet has a purpose in our lives, regardless of how happy or painful our experience with them is, how large or small a role they play in our lives, how much we love or despise them, or even if we actually know them.

  • What if it were revealed to you that the smile you showed to that person you were passing on the street actually changed that person’s whole outlook on their life and may have actually saved their day?
  • Perhaps as annoying to you as that honking horn was at the traffic light that it actually brought you back into the present moment and made you alert enough to miss an accident?
  • What if your cheating spouse actually did you a favor by forcing an end to your marriage because your marriage was keeping you from doing what your Soul was supposed to be accomplishing and learning in this lifetime?

▣ Does meditation help me develop my psychic abilities and what can I do to foster this psychic development?

The practice of meditating does indeed enhance your God-given psychic abilities. Being psychic is common to us all. We call it intuition, sixth sense, insight, hunch, feeling, etc., e.g., mothers have eyes in the back of their heads; or you think about someone and then the phone rings and it is either that person or someone calling about them; or something tells you to stay home, you do, and it turns out you avoided a huge traffic accident involving many cars on the highway; and on and on. Meditating is to your natural psychic abilities the same as exercise is for your muscles and body.

The following paper, written by Dr. Parker, our contributing writer, gives you a guideline for your psychic development.

I have been trying meditation for a little while now but I keep having thoughts come into my head when I am trying to meditate.  What is the best thing to do about this?  Should I get out a piece of paper and write them down?  Stop meditating until they go away or what?

A large number of people who start meditating say they want to meditate because they desire the ability to shut off the mental chatter; and many people who meditate stop meditating because they cannot turn the chatter off and so think that there is no use to meditating if they cannot shut the mental chatter off.

Most often, people refer to present time as a state of consciousness. Present time is living in the moment or bringing oneself back to the moment upon conscious recognition that one is behaving in a past habit pattern. One’s conscious mind may be in present time, but much of the time, one is still reacting with a past consciousness behavior.

▣ How does my jar affect the way I view my life?

Life is an interesting phenomenon. We all yearn to believe in a God or something that makes life worth living; otherwise, many of us would just jump off a building or attempt some other act of desperation.   Life can be hard! I do believe that we are born with an instinct to survive, so that helps the population to stay afloat; however, along with that instinct to survive, we have a need to validate who/what we are, what we believe in, and how we live. That's where all the problems start. We are born into a family, into a religion, into a neighborhood, into a country, and so on. We are educated/indoctrinated into the family beliefs, then into the religious beliefs, and on and on.    We become a composite of all these beliefs, e.g., our jar.   As we grow older, we formulate a picture of ourselves from all the information we contain in our jars, and we live in the world constantly seeing ourselves through others.
