▣ Detachment

Healing Prayer…Our meditation group often sends out (email) a “request for healing prayer” to offer our channeled and collective energies to someone in need – for example: an illness that is causing havoc in their physical being or in their family; an accident, sometimes extremely serious; a disaster, like the recent hurricane that hit Texas; or to pray for someone who is at death’s door; etc. We individually and collectively are more-than-willing to offer our channeled energy to the individual or family in need, but at the same time we acknowledge that the individual has free will to choose to accept these energies or that the Universal energies are calling for that individual or a family member to return home (to Heaven or to the pool of Universal energies). In other words sometimes the individual is ready to die.

So how do we as individuals and collectively deal with these apparent opposites; that is, how do we send healing prayers/energies to an individual and, at the same time, not interfere with the individual’s free will.

To provide the ground work for this write up, we will start by using Webster dictionary’s definitions.

ATTACHMENT: Webster: The act of attaching or the condition of being attached. Something, such as a tie, band, or fastener, that attaches one thing to another. A bond, as of affection or loyalty; fond regard.

DETACHMENT: Webster: The act or process of disconnecting or detaching; separation. The state of being separate or detached.

Detachment as one would define it is to separate from attachment.

What is DETACHMENT in a spiritual sense when conducting healing for another individual, particularly in the case of a friend or relative?

Detachment is the art of releasing oneself from a desired result. It suggests to one immediately that one would have to become cold to or untouched by whatever results, but this is not the case. One can still be emotional (be it happy or sad) by the result; however, it means that one must detach from desiring a certain result. One must trust that the Soul-Spirit has a purpose and that we must not interfere in that purpose. If we attach ourselves to a result, then we interfere. If we detach ourselves from the result, we are able to channel healing and loving energy that the Soul-Spirit can use for its deepest healing needs and to fulfill its original purpose.

NOTE: A couple of examples: a surgical doctor will excuse him/her self from operating on their own family members, close friends, and enemies; even if the doctor is one of the very best in a needed specialty. A police officer, lawyer or judge will take themselves off a legal case that involves someone they know. The legal reason for both is that of potential conflict of interest – which comes from understanding that the individual finds it hard to not to have a desired outcome and, even with the best of intentions, may not be able to separate themselves from a desired outcome.

One must try to remember that the Soul-Spirit prior to its incarnation agreed to a plan for its journey on Earth. One must also remember that our idea of what is best for someone else may and probably is not what is best for the other person. Let’s face it, we hardly know what is best for our selves; let alone what would be best for someone else. When we attach to the outcome of, say, an illness that someone we love is experiencing, then we interfere. You may say that we attach to that person getting healed so why is that interfering? What if that person is supposed to move on? What if that person’s journey on this planet is complete and they are anxious to go home? You cannot tell if someone is ready to go home by their age. Chronological age is only a number that humans have attached to measure time. As Edgar Cayce has said, “All Souls were created at the same time.” Many times, someone is ready to go home and all the wonderful relatives, healers, and good-doers who are praying for this person to get well, with all their good intentions and love, keep the person here – many times, resulting in more pain and suffering for the loved one. How many times have you heard someone say that they had prayed and prayed for their loved one to get well and then later found themselves praying that God would take them home because of their suffering?

So how do I pray or send healing in a detached way?

Send your healing prayers and love to the person’s Soul-Spirit. Ask God and the angels to go to this person’s Soul-Spirit with Light and love for the Soul-Spirit’s growth and healing. Then trust that God is working through you and the Soul-Spirit of the person you are praying for and that the person is receiving what they need and have enough faith in God to know that whatever the outcome, the outcome is the will of the Soul-Spirit.

CAVEAT
If a person dies - the people left behind need to grieve. By grieving, in your own way – which may differ dramatically from individual to individual – you are cleansing your painful feelings/emotions. In grieving it is important that you spend time – with others - remembering the best qualities of the deceased individual and bless the Soul-Spirit on his/her journey back home.
