The practice of meditating does indeed enhance your God-given psychic abilities. Being psychic is common to us all. We call it intuition, sixth sense, insight, hunch, feeling, etc., e.g., mothers have eyes in the back of their heads; or you think about someone and then the phone rings and it is either that person or someone calling about them; or something tells you to stay home, you do, and it turns out you avoided a huge traffic accident involving many cars on the highway; and on and on. Meditating is to your natural psychic abilities the same as exercise is for your muscles and body. 

The following paper, written by Dr. Parker, our contributing writer, gives you a guideline for your psychic development.

DEVELOPMENT OF PSYCHIC ABILITIES

SUPPORT GROUP:   Finding one, two, or more friends with whom you can share your interest in the development of psychic phenomenon, as well as your successes, failures, hopes and fears, can facilitate and accelerate the process of psychic development. Sharing experiences with someone who is willing to listen without downgrading your experience is very useful.

DAILY PRACTICE:   Psychic awareness grows with daily attention. If you dis­count or neglect it most of the time and only want itto perform occasionally while you are under critical pressure, it may not respond. Five minutes a day is better than four hours once a month. Practice, practice, practice!

SENSITIVITY:   Finely tuned sensitivity to both inner and outer processes provides more information and expands psychic knowing. Sensitivity to energy awareness and the quality of the experience is particularly useful.

TIME AND SPACE:  Your willingness to devote time to tuning in to your intuition and psychic sensitivity and to making a space for its unfolding in to your life are part of valuing and developing yourself. 

TRUST:   Trusting the process, trusting yourself, trusting your experience, are the keys to trusting and developing your psychic awareness.

HONESTY:   Willingness to face self-deception [ego] and to be honest with yourself and others is essential. Creating any kind of smokescreen interferes with clear understanding. Giving up pretenses is a big step in awakening psychic abilities.

OPENNESS:  If you are afraid of being seen, you may close up and then be unable to see (mentally). Being open to all experiences, bothinner and outer, gives psychic phenomena the space it needs to develop fully.

LOVE:  Opening your heart [chakra] to feelings of nonjudgmental love and compassion allows you to see into the nature of life. Emotional empathy and psychic identification are supported by love and compassion.

INTENTION:   The first requirement for consciously awakening psychic abilities is a clear intention to do so. Psychic,intuition is already within you; but to awaken it, you have to value it and intend to develop it.

PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY:   Choose your meditation goals (intention focus) carefully. Personal responsibility is a significant factor in maintaining trust with your friends/family, your own integrity, your personal enjoyment, acceptance and nonattachment of the processes, and avoiding many of the pitfalls when developing and practicing psychic abilities.  

DISCIPLINE:   Psychic intuition flourishes when the flow of inner words are disciplined and thought-forms are controlled with calmness(being in the alpha state). Learning to calm the mind is therefore part of the training for awakening psychic abilities. Various meditative practices are useful in learning to maintain the necessary inner calmness – examples: maintaining proper contact with the teacher's lesson, becoming one with the music, focusing on a candle's flame, etc.

RELAXATION:   Letting go of physical and emotional tension gives psychic intuition space to enter your conscious awareness.

RECEPTIVITY:   Learning to be quiet and receptive allows psychic abilities to unfold. Too much activity or conscious programming obstructs the psychic awareness that will emerge when a receptive attitude is cultivated.

ENJOYMENT:  Following psychic intuition is not always comfortable. At times, it may seem difficult and entail arduous work. At other times, it may be effortless. Enjoying the resources of psychic abilities is based on the satisfaction of expanding your consciousness, taking responsibility for your life, and surrendering to your own true nature.

NONVERBAL PLAY:  Music, colors, drawing, movement, and other forms of non-verbal expression provide excellent channels for activating the proper channels for activating psychic intuition – waiting for clairaudience (hearing), clairvoyance (seeing), or clairsensing (feeling-sensing).

ACCEPTANCE:  A nonjudgmental attitude, an acceptance of things as they are, including self-acceptance, allows psychic abilities to function freely. Allow yourself to continue learning, while being a thoughtful, searching skeptic.   No one can really answer the question of where psychic messages originate, e.g., did a spirit provide the information or was your subconscious mind personifying your inner wisdom?

NONATTACHMENT:  The willingness to let things be as they are, rather than trying to make them be a way YOU would like them to be, or the way you think they should be, allows intuition to emerge. You can see things as they are only when desires, wishes, and fears are out of the way.

PITFALLS:  Here are examples of pitfalls of ego message-psychic work…

§ conceit – my teacher is Moses, Nostradamus, Chief Sitting Bull, etc.

§ ordering, directing, or threatening someone to do an act.

§ moralizing and preaching – allow humans their humanness.

§ lecturing – often when we want a friend to join us, we overwhelm them with verbiage. Remember that actions speak louder than words.

§ offering solutions – the way you would do something is not necessarily the right way for the other person to do it.

§ psychoanalyzing or name labeling.

§ probing and questioning – there will be many times the message has no meaning to you as the bearer, but the receiver knows what it means. The message is really not any of your business.

COURAGE:  Fear gets in the way of direct experience and often generates deception. Your willingness to experience and confront your fears will help the expansion of your psychic abilities.

JOURNAL KEEPING:  Keeping a record of messages, psychic flashes, hunches, insights, and images that come to you spontaneously at any time of the day or night, can help stabilize and validate your growth. Examples – keep a dream journal, keep a record of your inner thoughts during meditation, flashes in your mind while doing your daily work, predictions you make for another person, etc.

OTHER PSYCHIC CAPABILITIES:  There are many refinements to psychic capabilities that an individual can develop that are not specifically covered in the above material; for example, psychic healing, astral travel and protection, or manifestation (i.e., winning things or finding objects) to name a few that are difficult to learn even with a qualified teacher and special focusing techniques (planned intention).
